Old minidisc finds!

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Dusted off my old Minidisc player yesterday and spent the afternoon listening through all my old discs. I knew I had recorded some old P3 Klubb and P3 Dans (legendary radioshows here in Sweden) back in 1999 and was really excited to listen to them again, 11 years later. Sadly, (what I remember to be) the best shows had been partially taped over, but two shows were intact.

I decided to record them:

P3 Klubb (1999-06-12)
P3 Dans (1999-11-10)

Germund Stenhag, Linda Nordeman and Calle Dernulf

Spring has finally reached Stockholm!

Flowers!

My soundtrack. Although one could argue that techno from Detroit is perhaps more of an autumny genre.

Little Dragon

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

As a northerner I’m sometimes annoyed by the fact that Göteborg (Gothenburg) seems to be the place where all the really good music has been coming from lately. But I guess I’ll have to swallow my pride and just enjoy the music, because Yukimi Nagano in Little Dragon sings like a goddess.

2009: A great year for hip-hop!

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Thanks to my pal Jesper I’ve avoided sleeping on some great releases this year. When listening to the new M.O.P. and Raekwon I can’t help to think 2009 will be remembered as a great year for hip-hop, and as the year when the old dogs reclaimed the scene from the kids.

Some essential rap albums 2009:
Raekwon-OnlyBuilt4CubanLinxIICover
Raekwon – “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt II”
Stand out track:  ”Gihad”

MOP_The_Foundation
M.O.P. – “Foundation”
Stand out tracks: “Crazy” & “Blow The Horns”

The_Ecstatic
Mos Def – “The Ecstatic”
Stand out tracks: “Auditorium” & “Pretty Dancer”

914-2
DOOM – “Born like this”
Stand out track: “Absolutely”

The Quiet Nights Orchestra

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I arrived late at the gig tonight, so I missed a couple of songs. The Quiet Nights Orchestra were playing at the legendary jazz club Fasching here in Stockholm. My old friend Peter is the leader of the band and plays the trombone.

All I have to say is: hot damn! Amazing jazz, nice atmosphere and a couple of Mariestads – the evening couldn’t have been much better. Well, I was kind of disappointed that the singer of the band, Sofie, didn’t recognize me even though we went to high school together. Maybe it was my mustache and ball cap that kept her from recognizing me? To comfort myself I picked up their 12-inch release on Japanese label P-Vine – as well as their full length “Chapter One” on CD – at a friend discount.

I didn’t have a camera with me, so some videos from their release party at Berns will have to suffice. (A party I missed for reasons unknown.)
